EV HOME CHARGER INSTALLATION
Driving an Electric Vehicle (EV) is fun. Charging an EV is simple, but Installing an EV charger is probably not how you want to spend your Saturday. Let our experts give you a hand with installation, permits and even micro-generation applications.
Tell us a bit about where you want your EV charger installed, and we’ll work with you to get it done.
We’ve partnered with FLO, Canada’s resident electric vehicle charging experts. Not only do they operate one of the country’s largest EV charging networks, they also provide EV drivers with stylish and durable residential solutions. Afterall, your EV looks great. Its charger should too.
Find out who’s making it even easier to go greener with rebates. Like the City of Edmonton’s 50% Rebate on EV Chargers or the federal government’s rebate on zero-emissions vehicles.
Whoah! Hit the brakes?
With a traditional engine, hitting the brakes turns that energy into lost heat. With an EV, braking stores the energy created to help you travel farther and your brakes last longer.
Where’s the tailpipe?
Since EVs don’t emit any harmful engine leftovers, they don’t need a tailpipe. How’s that for sleek?
What kind of batteries keep an EV running?
EV batteries are made from Lithium-ion, like smartphones, laptops and most rechargeable household electronics. And they’re 90% recyclable!
How much space do I need to install an EV charging station?
FLO’s charging station are quite compact. All you need is a flat and hard surface with space for the following dimensions:
Width: 7.62 in / 193 mm
Height: 17 in / 432 mm
Length: 6.9 in / 175 mm
When installing your station, keep in mind the distance to your electrical box, and how you normally go about parking your car.
Can I install my EV charging station outside?
Of course. The FLO Home is certified to operate at temperatures ranging from -40°C to 50°C, and that shiny aluminum exterior isn’t just there to look good. The NEMA4X casing is resistant to corrosion, dust, rain, snow, sleet and ice. You can even hose it down while cleaning!
Is there any maintenance to do on the charging station?
Nope! Once your station is installed, all you need to do is roll up and plug in.
How much juice does it take to charge an EV?
Now see, that’s a tricky question, and your answer will depend on what kind of snazzy EV you pick up at the dealership. We can tell you that your new FLO Home is the monogamous type, and that it will require a dedicated 40-amp breaker to charge your EV properly.
How far/long can I drive a fully charged EV?
The rule of thumb is you’ll gain 30 kilometers of range per hour of charging at a Level 2 station, but that number can change based on the make and model of your vehicle, your driving habits and even the time of year!
It might be best to check with your car manufacturer for a specific answer.
Anything I should know about permits?
When you hire Rumi for installation, our certified electrician will take care of the electrical permit and the inspection for you. They’ll also fill out any necessary documents for rebates and incentives.
