What to Expect

  • You get home systems warranty coverage, unlimited expert legal support, 12 months of Ask a Home Inspector Subscription.
  • The warranty covers your core home systems. Includes: central heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and hot water tank components of owned units.
  • There is a 30-day waiting period for claims. Once the waiting period is up, your warranty is active.
  • Parts and labour are covered on sudden repairs. Maintenance and regular wear and tear are not covered by this plan. Check your contract for more information.  
  • File a claim when you need a repair. You’ll pay a $50 fee per repair issue.
  • The warranty covers up to $10,000 per year for claims on your covered home systems. You're covered to the same value as your old system, to a max of $2,500 per system.  
  • Fast repairs by experts vetted and approved by Rümi. We dispatch the service tech within 48 hours, so you’re never left waiting long for a fix. During the winter months, we dispatch repair techs for heating system issues immediately.

What does the Home Systems Protection Plan cover, and what doesn't it cover?

What we cover:

Spontaneous mechanical breakdowns? Covered. This includes all parts and labour required to get your home systems back on track quickly. You just pay a $50 fee per repair visit and your protection plan fee, and we’ll take care of the rest!

We cover spontaneous mechanical breakdowns on these core home systems:  

  • Plumbing  
  • Electrical  
  • Heating  
  • Air conditioning  
  • Hot water tank components (owned units)

What we don't cover:

A Rümi warranty covers a lot, but there are some exceptions. Be sure to check your contract for the specifics. Here are some situations that aren’t covered by this warranty:  

  • Normal wear and tear  
  • Preventative maintenance  
  • Breakdown that was reasonably foreseeable on or before the Effective Date of coverage.  
  • Hidden defect  
  • Improper installation, construction methods or materials  
  • Improper use of the appliance resulting in damage  
  • Damage resulting from freezing, ice, snow, rain, lightning, wind, roots, water, explosion, vandalism, earthquake, electrical failure, inadequate voltage, flood, war, civil unrest or malicious mischief.  
  • Rust or corrosion  
  • Repairs and replacement of rented hot water tanks

With a warranty, will I still have to do maintenance work on covered home systems?

Yes, you should continue to get regular maintenance on your plumbing, electrical, furnace, air conditioning and hot water tank systems. Not only will this prolong the life of your systems, but it will also keep you protected by this warranty.  

The Home Systems Protection Plan doesn’t cover breakdowns related to poor system maintenance or regular wear and tear. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and service schedule to stay on top of your core home systems.

What happens if a covered home system needs to be replaced entirely?

If your home system is broken beyond repair, it’s time to think about a replacement. You’ll get a cash settlement of the value repair cost $500. Remember, there is a maximum annual coverage amount of $10,000.

You can cancel your home protection plan with Rümi any time. Keep in mind that there is a fee to cancel within the first year of your warranty protection plan.

Is there a waiting period to make claims on covered home systems?

Yes, there is a 30-day waiting period to make a claim on your Home Systems Protection Plan, starting the day you sign up. Once the 30 days have passed, the warranty in your protection plan will be fully active and open to claims.

With expert advice, planning upgrades, maintenance, repairs and projects is easier than ever. Our goal is to support you however you need, so that you feel empowered to tackle that DIY — or call in a pro — when necessary.

How do I make a claim on my home systems protection plan?

We’re here to take your call 24/7! To make a claim, call 1-888-865-9711. We’ll dispatch a fully qualified technician, contractor or repair person to your premises within 48 hours. If your heating system malfunctions from November through March, repairs will be started immediately.

Do I have to pay a service fee to file a warranty claim?

There is a $50 fee payable per repair issue. Your service technician will collect the fee when they come for repair.  

Other than your monthly protection plan fee, there are no other service fees to make claims.
