Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between soffit and fascia?

Glad you asked! Stand just outside your house and look up. Do you see a border of material overhanging your home’s roof? That’s soffit. Many homes have it and many do not. In addition to enhancing the exterior or your house, soffit helps with ventilation, particularly into and out of the attic.

If that's what soffit is, what’s fascia?

You can’t really have one without the other. Where there’s soffit overhanging your roof, you’ll see fascia running along the ends of a structure where exterior elements like gutters are attached.

Together, soffit and fascia help prevent mold and mildew from accumulating due to unwanted moisture buildup in the attic. Rümi’s professionals can repair, replace or install most types of soffit and fascia, and whether your soffit and fascia installation or repair is being done with the whole siding package or on its own, Rümi’s professionals will complete the project with care and attention to every detail.

In general, it takes about 1–2 days to repair soffit and fascia on an average-size home. We’ll go over the full project, including timelines, before any work begins.

Signs of damage include peeling paint, water stains, holes, sagging and rotting. If any of these signs are present, it’s worth booking a repair to prolong the life of your soffit and fascia. Regular maintenance can prevent ventilation and moisture issues, saving you money in the long run.

\It is possible to repair soffit and fascia as a DIY, but it can be dangerous and difficult. Without the proper tools and knowledge, you could end up doing more damage to your roof support. When it comes to all roofing matters, we recommend professional repairs.

To fix soffit and fascia, you’ll need a ladder, hammer, nails, saw, pry bar and safety equipment. Materials can include replacement boards, paint, caulking and screws. Our team will supply all tools and equipment needed to complete the job safely.

If the damage is localized, the solution may be to simply replace one section of your soffit and fascia. Our home exterior pros will assess the damage and help you understand what’s needed in your repair service.

We recommend inspecting your soffit and fascia at least once a year to catch any damage early. Prompt repairs and regular maintenance will extend the life of your soffit and fascia, protecting your roof from damage.

When it comes to soffit and fascia damage, the most common culprits are water damage, insect infestations and weather-related issues like wind, hail, and snow damage.
