Do you love where you work? It’s no secret that work takes up much of our time. In fact, the average person spends one third of their life at work. Woah! If you love where you work, that number might not seem so shocking.
It makes us happy knowing Rümi exists to make people happy by making it easier for everyone to love the places they live and work.
Loving where you work can mean many things to many people. Whether it’s an awesome culture, meaningful work or a killer salary — we hope everyone can find a job that makes them excited to get up and get to work.
While the intricacies of the role itself certainly factor in, you might have more control over how much you enjoy your workdays than you think. Routine, work-life balance, community and culture can all increase your likelihood of saying, “no, really — I love my job!” Let’s get into it.
Find balance
Work-life balance — it’s more than a buzzword! Even if you adore your job, it’s important to un-plug. If you find yourself regularly perusing your inbox at 10 pm, you may need to work on your work-life balance. These days, it can take some effort!
Once upon a time, the boundaries of work and life were quite clear. There were no pinging notifications and tiny supercomputers that could go anywhere at any time. More than ever, it’s critically important to set boundaries.
Consider implementing firm start and finish times, muting notifications after hours and blocking time in your calendar for yourself. Get some food, have a stretch and take a deep breath. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is no easy feat, and structure and routine are necessary to make it happen.
Since many of us are still working from home, a solid routine makes a huge difference in the workday. It’s not always easy to get outside for that mid-day walk (hello -30°C weather!), but it’s the little changes throughout the day that have the biggest impact.
Build connections
Folks who love where they work often accredit the community and connection they experience with their team members. We shouldn’t underestimate the positive impact of quick water cooler chats and lunch with colleagues, so how can we incorporate that into a work-from-home setup?
Here at Rümi, many of our teams start the week with a morning coffee chat. It’s a great way to stay connected and gear up for the week ahead. We keep the shop talk to a minimum and mainly chat about weekend activities and what our furry friends have been up to.
Another great way to connect with your team is by scheduling an after-work happy hour! Bonus points for setting a theme, planning a fun activity and sharing a few cocktail and mocktail recipes for your colleagues to mix up and enjoy.
Simplify
As for after work, is there anything better than finishing a busy day and not having to worry about what’s for dinner? That’s why we love whipping out the slow cooker. On these cold winter nights, slow cooker beef dip always hits the spot. Plus, slow cooker meals equal less cleanup — it’s a win-win!

Now, we couldn’t talk about loving where you work without giving ourselves a little shout-out...
